What is Fibromyalgia Pain

Fibromyalgia pain is considered a type of arthritis pain but it affects the muscles instead
of the joints in your body.  The pain can crop up anywhere in the body at any time and is
usually wide spread. Ligaments, tendons, skeletal muscles and the bursa (sacs that surround
your joints) are affected by Fibromyalgia.  Most fibromyalgia sufferers experience this
pain in their entire body but it can be localized to one particular spot.

To be diagnosed with fibromyalgia you need to feel pain in eleven of eighteen tender points
on your body when they are touched.  They consist of the back of the neck, shoulders and
upper back, elbows, and knees, your waist, ribs, buttocks and lower back. Once you are
diagnosed you and your physician can come up with the treatment that is best for you.

Finding the best treatment can take some time and experimenting because the pain can travel
from spot to spot or affect your whole body at the once.  The pain can feel like a deep flu type ache all over the body.  It can feel like there is a burning sensation just under the skin, or it could be a shooting or stabbing pain in the muscles.  It often becomes more severe as your day goes on.  Fibromyalgia pain can be combined with myofacial pain in the face which can be a stabbing, aching or throbbing pain.  It can also be associated with tempromandibular joint pain in the jaw. This can cause severe headaches, difficulty in opening and closing the mouth, a clicking jaw, or a locked jaw.
