Mark 11:22, 23 states: :22 And Jesus answering saith unto them, Have faith [pistis-belief] in God. :23 For verily I say unto you, That whosoever shall say unto this mountain, Be thou removed, and be thou cast into the sea; and shall not doubt in his heart, but shall believe that those things which he saith shall come to pass; he shall have whatsoever he saith. This verse means that if you believe without doubt, what you ask for will happen. Briefly put, this is what it means to believe in God.
There are two types of belief, positive and negative. Positive belief comes from believing in God. For those who believe in God, He is the directing force in their lives. They believe that God will supply all their needs and direct them where to go. To believe in God means that you believe in his promises and are ready to receive them. It means an inner peace that you might not have experienced before. It means your troubles are less burdensome because you have someone to give them to for a solution. It does not mean He will automatically give you what you “want”; but, He will give you what you “need”.
In the book of John there is a story about a blind man. His faith was such that he believed Christ could heal him with a touch, and He did. Jesus Christ received his power from God. There are many stories throughout the Bible that speak of this kind of faith. They depict the power that comes from believing in God.
If you want to get to know God, or know Him better, there are guidelines in the Bible you can follow. If you are interested check out these verses: (1) John 3:16,(2) Isaiah 53:6, (3) Romans 6:23, (4) 1Peter 3:18, (5) Titus 3:5 and (6) John 3:16 which sums it all up, “For God so loved the world that He gave his own begotten son. That whosoever believeth in Him will have everlasting life”.
Believing in God has countless benefits. Study of the Bible will give you the details on how to get to know God and the benefits it offers (consider the verses above).
Deuteronomy 28:6 states: “Blessed shall you be when you come in, and blessed shall you be when you go out.” This means that you are blessed in your life on a daily basis. Proof of this is in Psalm 68:19 says, “Blessed be the Lord, who daily loads us with benefits, the God of our salvation!” Your belief in God will bring you these blessings. Every day you, your family and your work will be blessed in many ways.
Believing in God also brings you peace of mind and heart. Knowing in your heart that God is guiding you will help you make large and small decisions in life. Again, reading his word will reinforce this time and time again. Belief in God and His teachings will help you follow the straight and narrow path. With His strength you will be less tempted to commit adultery, lie, steal from your neighbor and everything else the Ten Commandments say. Without that belief you have a strong tendency to do what you want and that can result in disaster. You can hurt two families by committing adultery, you could contract STD’s from sex outside of your marriage or by being promiscuous. Lying, cheating and stealing could result in jail time and a destroyed reputation. The strength and guidance to not do these things is given freely. You need to open your heart and mind to God and accept his offer.
