Pick the right charity. Oh, so many to choose from. I’ve been hit on by so many lately I’m getting confused. I have three pledge cards in front of me at the moment that I could swear I’ve already donated to and I did – in 2010. Man they came around in a hurry!
All of my donations go to cancer related charities but there are many worthwhile charities to give to. There are charities dealing with animals, humanities, the arts, health, religion, environment and others. What you give to could be based on something in your life or a personal interest. My second choice would be Animal Rights.
There are 239 charities dealing with animal rights, 74 dealing with wildlife preservation, and 69 dealing with zoos and aquariums. Libraries, public broadcasting, museums, and performing arts have 681, Religion has 325. My personal favorite, health, has 568 charities. Each of these categories has several areas where they need help.
The health area alone is broken out into four areas; they include Research, Diseases Disorders and Disciplines, Treatment and Prevention, and Patient and Family Support. In the Patient and Family Support there are charities like Angel Flight, A Kid Again, Association of Hole in The Wall Camps, Camp Boggy Creek for Florida’s ill children, Camp Courageous of Iowa, Camp Sunshine Main, and a host of others. Many are rated three and four stars which are the two highest rankings available.
Animal Rights includes the ones we know about like the Humane Society, and the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals but there are many others out there too. The Animal Defense League of Texas, Animal Heaven, Animal Legal Defense Fund, The Animal Medical Center, Animal Welfare Institute, and Southeastern Guide Dogs are just a few that are available. All states have charities for the welfare of animals so you can look them up by where you live too. We live in Florida and there’s a site readily available for that state. We’re originally from Wisconsin and there’s a site for the Humane Society of Wisconsin.
No matter what you choose as a charity it will do your heart good to help someone or something out. The donations can also be used as deductions on your tax returns.
