Juice Fast (Modified) Day 6

Juice Fast

Japanese Squirrel

Juice fast = only drinking vegetable and fruit juices, and you’re supposed to do this for 10 days.  My daughter-in-law found out (twice) that the last few days can be really difficult but in the end it was worth it for her. This time she lost her holiday weight this time and reports more energy. (She’s very slim to begin with but felt the five pounds she gained over the holidays just had to go)

Doing a total juice fast isn’t for everyone as I found out.  In previous articles I talked about my ileostomy and fibromyalgia being somewhat a hinderance to just drinking juices.  The ileosomy especially poses a problem because anything that is all liquid will go through quickly.  In my case it was from mouth to pouch in about 15 minutes.  This didn’t stop me though.

By day 3 if figured out that if I included more  raw or cooked veggies, lean protein, and some (very few) whole grains along with my glasses of juice I did better. I even snuck in a Weight Watchers Frozen Fudge bar for dessert at night. This is day 6 and I’ve taken off 3 pounds – now have 5 more to go.  Guess this means I’m not really on a juice fast but just changing the way I eat.  I’m still going to call it my “modified” juice fast just because it makes me feel like it’s not a diet.  Have to trick my mind as well as my body.

Some things I’ve noticed since changing things:  I’m sleeping more soundly; I don’t have as many cravings;  I stay satisfied longer before the hunger pangs start; I have more energy especially in the morning – by 2:30 I still want to call it quits for the day (of course I’m up between 5:00 & 5:30 A.M.); I’m getting rid of the stomach cramps and bloating I was having; my skin & hair are taking on a better texture; this is a big one – I have less fibromyalgia pain.  Praise God !

The energy and having less pain is allowing me to exercise more too.  I started, before juice fast, walking about 1/2 mile 2 – 3 times a week.  The past 4 days I’ve been doing over a mile every day.  I’m also doing some yoga.  I’m sure this has also helped my fibromyalgia pain and sleep.  I go for 3/4 mile in the morning and right after supper.  I’ll confess, I didn’t go this morning but I spent an hour scrubbing out the refrigerator, cleaning kitchen cabinets, and scrubbing the floor.  I’m happy with my kitchen and think I got enough exercise for the morning.  Now I’m ready for a cup of green tea and a small snack.

Hope that all this good stuff continues next week and until I reach my first goal of the 5 pounds, and then a second goal, and a third.  I’m keeping those to myself for right now but will let you know as I tackle each one.
